CAMERON POETZSCHER - BIOGRAPHY

 

Cameron Poetzscher is a technology business executive and VP of Corporate Development at Uber. He started his professional career as a Consultant at Booz & Company and then as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. He has worked in San Francisco, NY and in Asia. He has extensive experience in the areas of business development, strategic alliances, mergers & acquisitions and all areas of strategic finance and organizational leadership. 


Education and Early Career

Cameron Poetzscher graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, and later continued his education by earning an MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating with Distinction inclusive of First and Second Year Honors. Early in his career, Poetzscher worked in Sydney for consulting firm Booz & Company where he advised multinational companies throughout the Asia-Pacific region on operational, strategic, financial, and organizational issues. 

Cameron Poetzscher's Investment Banking Career

After graduating Harvard Business School, Poetzscher stayed on as a Research Fellow for Professor Peter Tufano, on the Harvard Business School Finance faculty, where he researched options, hedging and credit derivatives, among other topics, assisted with academic course development and served as a teaching assistant. 

In 1996, he went on to work for Goldman Sachs, where he rose to the rank of Managing Director of the company's Technology/Media/Telecom group. He first worked in New York, then transferred to the San Francisco Office and then in 2008 moved to Asia to take on the role of COO of Mergers & Acquisitions for Asia-Pacific ex-Japan at Goldman Sachs. 
Selected lead-managed deals by Poetzscher at Goldman Sachs over the years include the $7.5 billion acquisition of Pixar by Disney, the $7 billion acquisition of Activision by Vivendi Games, the $11.4 billion sale of Fraser & Neave to TCC, the $4.7 billion sale of Fraser & Neave’s share of Asia Pacific Breweries to Heineken, the $892 million take-private of Matahari Dept. Stores by CVC, and the $934 million IPO of DreamWorks Animation. 

On Board with Uber

In 2014 Poetzscher became the VP of Corporate Development at Uber, where, he has been involved in M&A, strategic partnerships, business operations and global fundraising ever since. He brings an analytical and creative approach to problem-solving, with expert knowledge of deal execution, partnership structuring and negotiations. His experience includes working with Fortune 50 companies as well as pre-IPO startup operations. His international experience in the Asia-Pacific region has been relevant as Uber expands in Asia. 

He lives with his wife, Varsha Rao, and their two children in San Francisco, California.
